My Approach
The ways we learned to handle ourselves earlier in life may continue to be useful, or they may not be the best strategies for problem solving in our current circumstances. We can develop more-effective ways to hold and understand our emotions with care, to feel more fully, to experience greater vitality, and to have greater closeness in our relationships.
I use relational and interpersonal approaches to psychotherapy, focusing upon immediate emotional states experienced in session. As appropriate, I employ tools from mindfulness and body-based approaches for managing anxiety and pain, systems-focused therapies, and CBT/DBT skills-based therapies. My approach is influenced by family and group psychotherapy methods.
In sessions, while focusing upon moment-to-moment interactions with care, I hold both internal and interpersonal dynamics in mind. I support increasing capacity for describing, thinking, and experiencing feelings, which can create greater ease, less stress, increase spaciousness, and bring greater clarity in your life.
About Me
I came to psychotherapy from working with children from infancy through adolescence. While now I work with adults, families, and teens, my earlier experience with hospitals, home services, residential care, and young children informs how I can be helpful now. I have studied relational psychodynamic therapy, completed a two-year training in group psychotherapy, and provided over two decades of therapy with adults, teens, families, and groups. I support resilience, vitality, clarity, and increasing capacity for closeness. I work to decrease emotional suffering and increase insight, flexibility, clarity, and vitality as people move forward in their lives.
